6 Tips to Make 2020 Your Best Year Yet!

”The best is yet to come and babe, won’t it be fine? You think you’ve seen the sun, but you ain’t seen it shine.” – Frank Sinatra

We have exactly 20 days until we welcome the new decade

Truth Bomb: if there is any possibility 2020 will be a great year, you need to start preparing NOW.

Today, I’m sharing 6 tips to make 2020 your best year yet!

1.Write down 5 activities that bring you joy. Commit to doing these regularly in 2020.

Have you ever sat down and asked what gives you joy? I’m sure you’ve asked on more than one occasion why you’re feeling down. If you’re not making time for things that you love, why the heck would you be joyful?

For this list, don’t include big events, think small, like, going out to dinner with friends, grabbing a coffee at your favorite shop, or spending a night away with your spouse. Commit to doing at least one joyful activity each week in 2020.

2. Grade the Key Areas of Your Life. Commit to improving one area this year.

Give your life a report card. Grade each key area of your life with a letter: A, B, C, D, or F. Key areas to consider are social, health, family, career, contribution, and finances. Once you’ve graded yourself, choose one area to focus on and improve for 2020.

3. Audit Your Week. Commit to getting rid of one meaningless activity.

Before the end of the year, choose a week and keep track of all your activities. Once completed, sort your activities into two categories: meaningful versus meaningless. Commit to getting rid of one meaningless activity in 2020.

4. Get Clear on Your Values. Commit to living them in 2020.

As David Goggins would say “motivation is crap.” Your values are what will drive you forward when circumstances are not ideal. Ask yourself, what do you value? Do you value health? Integrity? Adventure? Whatever your values are, write them down and commit to living them in 2020.

5. Write a Letter to Your Future Self. Commit to reading it once week.

Before the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, make sure you sit with yourself and take the time to write down who you want to be. Dream big and get specific. How does your future self act? What do you wear? Where do you live? What kind of friends do you have? What’s your job like? How do you spend your free time? Don’t limit yourself! Commit to reading it once a week in 2020.

6. Choose a Theme for Your Year. Commit to making this your focus.

If you could only do one thing in 2020 that would make it a good year, what would that be? Maybe it would be improving your health by committing to an exercise routine, or spending more time with your family, or, volunteering in your community. Whatever it is, try to summarize your theme in one impactful word such as: Family, Contribution, Adventure, Health, Gratitude. Commit to living your theme in 2020.

We have 20 days left in 2019. Let’s set ourselves up for success.
