The Friday Five: Mindset and Success

It’s not your abilities that are limiting you, it’s your mindset. Today I’m sharing five learnings to challenge your mindset and wire it for success.

18/40/60 Rule

“When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you; when you’re 40, you don’t give a darn what anybody thinks of you; when you’re 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all.” – Dr. Daniel Amen

Get to 60 faster! Realize everyone is too busy thinking about themselves to worry about what you’re doing or saying. If you want to do something, do it. If you have a voice, share it.

Commit to 100%

It’s much easier to commit to doing something everyday versus three times a week. When you commit 100% it becomes automatic. When you break a commitment to yourself one time, it’s much easier to do it again. To put this into perspective, if O’Hare airport committed to a standard of 99.9% it would mean having two unsafe landings a day. Why commit to low standards in your life? Rise up.

Limiting Beliefs

It’s not what you don’t know that holds you back; it’s what you do know that isn’t true.

Jack Canfield

When was the last time you challenged your beliefs about yourself? The best way to do this is to ask a close friend how they see you. You may be surprised with their answer.

Facing Fear

Everyone feels fear, so why do some face it, while others sit paralyzed? The secret is how you view fear. If you hold the belief that fear builds confidence, promotes growth, and breads power, you will face it. If you hold fear in a place of pain and helplessness, you’ll never slay the dragon. The secret is to move fear from a place of pain to a place of power. The way to do this is to commit to taking little risk every day.

Question

Successful people take time to reflect and ask questions. Take five to ten minutes and think or journal on this one:

“If we were to meet three years from now, what has to happen during that three year period for you to feel happy about your progress?”

  1. Last week I closed a very long & traumatic chapter of my life, & for the first time in almost a decade, I’m ready to answer the question you posed at the end of this blog post. You won’t know, learn or receive if you don’t ask life these important questions.

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning – Albert Einstein

As always, thank you for sharing!
